Tomatoes!

A short intro for a fictitious tv-show I named TomatPrat (TomatoTalk). This was an assignment in the motion-graphics class. Made using After Effects and Maya.

How it was made
  • A tomato was modeled, textured and shaded in Maya
  • An animation of it spinning more-or-less randomly was rendered with Mental Ray.
  • The sequence of the spinning tomato was then brought into After Effects for further animation.
  • A 2D-particle-system using the tomato-sequence as an sprite-particle was used to “simulate” the tomatoes falling through the air.
  • The depth-of-field effect makes it look more visually pleasing and helps hide the fact that they are actually 2D-particles.
  • The logo was animated using basic keyframing-techniques, and given som lighting effects to integrate it into the composition.
  • The tomato exploding in the end is a combination of a 2D-shatter effect and stockfootage of blood-spatter.
  • Effects such as motion-blur, lens distortion, chromatic aberration and glares was used to make it look slightly less computer-generated.
