Brain VFX

Partial CGI head replacement VFX for David Metz’ sci-fi short film “Kazarians Pagt“. The character in the shot is clinically dead, yet the brain is kept alive.

At Tapperiet, Simen Nyland and I were involved in pre-production and post-production of the two main VFX shots of the film. Due to the complexity of the shots, we got involved with the project a few months before shoot/production. We created a quick pre-viz of the shots using Autodesk Maya and various assets.
With this previsualized sequence as a foundation we could plan the process with the director and crew for the day of the shoot.

Post work included matchmoving, creating an approximate digital double of the actresses face to blend into the live action footage. The brain was considered the main hero asset, however most of the work went into getting a believable cut of the scalp, and dialing in the correct amount of blood/grossness to suit the tone of the scene.
